The Razer Blade Pro is a gorgeous laptop, with optimal ergonomics for both work and play. The graphics are crisp and clear, with a 17.3 inch screen leaving no detail left to the imagination. The feel of the keyboard is top notch, and even rivals that of a Mac. But the real gem of this machine is the Switchblade User Interface. The mouse touchpad part of the Switchblade User Interface is a multi-touch LCD track-panel, and is capable of two different modes. The first mode is for information display, and is shown in full color. The second mode serves as a multi-touch trackpad, and can be overly sensitive at times. The LCD screen is about four inches in size and has more than adequate resolution for that small a screen. It can also be customized with the user’s choice of wallpaper or background photo. The second part of the Switchblade User Interface is a group of 10 keys that are completely customizable in command and icon. Commands and icons can also be grouped into sets that can be alternated by a few swipes of the finger. This allows for a tremendous amount of personalization for the user. And this is a big plus for users who frequently play different games.
The Razer Blade Pro has several positive attributes, as stated above. However, it seems that for every great feature, there is also a small failure. Even though the laptop is relatively thinner than most, at 7/8 of an inch, it’s also heavier than most, weighing in at a whopping 6.54 pounds. This is still light compared to other gaming laptops, but there are plenty of lighter laptops out there that are adequate for gaming. The thin design also contributes to quick overheating, which can send the machine to bluescreen. And while the graphics are of the highest quality, the wireless reception can be lacking, sometimes requiring an online gamer to physically plug in an Ethernet cable to prevent lag. The power cord is also made to be slim and compact, which is a big plus considering reported battery life is only two to three hours of use.
While there are many pros and cons of the Razer Blade Pro laptop, as there are with any expensive computer, there is certainly enormous potential for this machine to fulfill a user’s every need. If the user is willing to make a couple sacrifices for the sake of performance, the Razer Blade Pro will perform like a champ.
