Finding mold spores indoors, both in the air and on surfaces such as clothing and furniture, is very common. The majority of indoor spores have their origins outdoors. Standard cleaning inside helps to keep the levels of spores low in the house, while careful deep cleaning of areas where mold is visible will help prevent potentially dangerous outbreaks.
The only time most homeowners should worry is when there are large active patches of growth. The humidity in Palm Coast, Florida can lead to mold growth in nearly any dark or slightly damp places. These large patches are even more prone to growing when there has been a water leak, flood, or long periods of excessive humidity. Once mold growth has flourished, airborne spores can lead to additional growths throughout the house.
The growth of mold can occur nearly anywhere in the home, and spores that land on surfaces like carpets and upholstery can be particularly difficult to remove. There have been homes in Palm Coast and throughout Florida that have been ruined due to the growth of spores within walls and other damp places. Uncontrolled growth in Florida homes has even damaged the structure of houses of all sizes, resulting in costly repairs. Due to the high levels of moisture in Florida air, there is no way to eliminate all mold growth. However, keeping your home clean is a big step towards preventing large scale growths. Additionally, managing the humidity levels inside your home can go a long way towards protecting your home.
Of course, damage to things is only a small reason to be concerned with mold growth in Florida. While most people spend their whole lives exposed to some level of spores in the air without cause for concern, there are some people whose health can be adversely effected by airborne mold.
Health conditions can be mild to very severe. The most common reaction is allergies or infections, but some people have suffered severe respiratory illnesses as a result of mold exposure in Palm Coast. Symptoms to look out for throughout Florida and other moist climates include shortness of breath, sneezing, eye irritation, fatigue, throat irritation, wheezing, and headaches. Any person who suspects they have been exposed to mold who exhibits these symptoms should seek help from a physician right away.
Here are just a few ways to help keep mold levels down in your Florida home:
-Ensure that your bathroom and any other areas in the home where moisture can build up are vented to the outside.
-Ensure that air conditioning vents are never blocked and keep your air conditioning units in good condition.
-Consider installing a de-humidifier in your crawl space or basement, which will also create a more pleasant home year round.
-Run the exhaust fan in your kitchen when you cook.
-Add additional insulation to any cold surfaces including pipes, basement walls, and air ducts throughout your Florida property.
-Purchase and install a good quality moisture sensor alarm in any area where water could accumulate.
