Every old house needs to have its toilet replace at some point in time. The ancient old cast iron toilet seems to be taking forever to refill, it is noisy and it leaks. You have more than enough reasons for your outdated toilet to require maintenance. When an issue arises, it is best to fix it straight away and stop your toilet from a terminal failure .
A blocked toilet is a stressful issue that may arise in a household. While some blocked toilets you can fix with a plunger, sometimes a plunger will not work, this is an indication of something more serious. A blocked toilet may be a result of debris. Cotton balls and feminine hygiene products can cause blockages and should never go down the toilet in any circumstances. To avoid a blocked toilet, dispose directly into a rubbish bin.
After flushing your toilet, does water continue to leak into the toilet pan? Re-pushing the button sometimes works if it has become stuck, but sometimes the issue is inside the toilet cistern especially if it is old and worn. Inside the cistern the bottom plunger washer may be perished and not sealing, this will allow water to leak into the flush pipe and the toilet bowl. The water inlet valve may also be faulty, causing water to continuously flow into the cistern instead of shutting off when reaching the required level.
Is the toilet leaking around its base? A perished, or loose seal or rubber gasket where the toilet enters the sewer drain at the floor could be the reason. Fixing a leaking toilet seal involves disconnecting the water removing the toilet cistern, removing the screws from the pan and lifting the toilet to access the seal. A toilet removal should be done by a licensed plumber who has experience with toilet repairs and replacements.
While choosing a replacement toilet, The "set-out" enters into the equation. The set out is the distance from the wall to the centre of the waste pipe coming up through the floor. The set-out can be different depending on the type of toilet replaced. A new toilet may not fit an old set out. Majority of new toilets have adjustable set outs of around 100-180mm, homes that are more than 180mm or under 100mm; you will have to modify the waste pipe under the toilet floor.
There are many different styles of new toilets on the market today. The close-coupled toilets the pan and the cistern are connected to become one unit. Then there is a suite where the cistern and pan join by a flush pipe, and a plate conceals the flush pipe. The flush pipe on these suites can be cut down or added onto so the toilet pan can move closer or further away from a wall for a variety of different set-outs.
There are many times in a homeowners life they may need to pick a new toilet. Replacing aging out of style toilet bowls, to a full-scale bathroom renovation, you should always consult the services of a registered plumber.
