LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. LEDs are lighter efficient than an incandescent light bulb. The lifespan of led lighting products is very high other than incandescent light bulbs. In several areas, traditional light bulbs are replaced with LEDs. Some examples are street lights, lights in cars, and different types of decorative lighting. LEDs are small in size and provide unique design opportunities. LEDs offer a massive opportunity for innovation in lighting and also Led lighting changes traditional lighting technologies. The main 5 advantages of LEDs are discussed in this article.
- Long life
Compared to traditional lighting solutions the most important advantage of LEDs is a long life. Quality LEDs have 30,000–50,000 hours expected lifespan, based on the quality of the fixture. The lifespan of an incandescent bulb maybe 1,000 hours and fluorescent have lifespan 8,000 to 10,000 hours. Quality LED lighting product operating 8 hours per day and its lifespan will be 20 years. After 20 years we will be forced to replace the light source for a new one.
- Energy Efficiency:
We know that LEDs need very low amounts of power. The traditional incandescent consumes a very high amount of power but LEDs use 50 percent less electricity than incandescent, fluorescent, halogen, etc. conventional bulbs emit light and heat in all direction other than LEDs they emit light in a specific direction because of the directional capability LEDs reduces wasted light and energy.
- Safer
Safety is the unnoticed advantage of LED lighting. Traditional incandescent bulbs get hot within 20-25 minutes of use. It is very harmful to us. LEDs are safe because they don’t get hot even after the hours of operation. At present people looking for a different energy source to help them conserve more energy so that people nowadays switch to LEDs. The traditional lighting would slowly replace soon.
- Eco-Friendly
Another important advantage of LEDs is, they are free of toxic chemicals. LEDs contain no mercury or other dangerous substance. Traditional lighting contains a multitude of materials like mercury that are hazardous to the environment. The LED contains no toxic substance and also it is 100% recyclable. As we mentioned above, the longer lifespan of LED can save the materials and production of up to 30 incandescent light bulbs.
- Durability
Like any traditional bulbs breaking an LED bulb is not easy, traditional bulbs are made of glass and filaments but LEDs do not contain filaments. In a traditional bulb, filaments can destroy the product in case of voltage fluctuation. Every LED light comes with a chip with integral voltage fluctuation protection, this chip protects the LEDs and makes them durable.
