Home is the ultimate place where you can feel comfortable and that's why maintaining a constant temperature is important. Hence, people are opting for the latest loft insulation process. It also helps you to skip excessive utility expenses and lets you save at least 20% of the electric bill. Loft insulation is compared to a blanket that helps to trap the heat and resists it to get through the walls in the hot summer days. Moreover, it keeps your house warmer in the wintery days and makes the place cosy and comfortable.
According to a professional, the loft place of your house is responsible for approx 25% loss of heat. Installing the best loft insulation method will engage your home with a longer span of around 40 years. To resist the heat from penetrating the loft, a minimum 270mm thickness is required. Well, the materials used for the insulating process is considered to be of non-flammable mineral fibre or rock fibre. However, there are top three insulation methods are available and they are - Blanket Insulation, Loose or Granular Fill Insulation and Sheet Insulation.
So, let's check the speciality that each of these insulation methods consists of -
Blanket Insulation -
Materials that are mainly utilized for blanket insulation are - rock fibre, glass fibre, mineral fibre or foil-backed felt. These materials are sold in the form of rolls and the rolls are therefore placed in the right space, snugly between the joists. The rolls are available in 4 inches (100mm) and 3 inches (75mm) thickness. The range of the width varies between 4 feet (1200mm) and 1 foot (300mm) and the lengths come between 16feet and 30 feet. However, this insulation method is considered to be one of the most prevalent forms.
Loose or Granular Fill Insulation -
Mineral wool, cork granules, cellulose fibre and exfoliated vermiculite - these are the materials used in Loose or Granular Fill Insulation method. Sometimes, the experts don't suggest Loose Fill Insulation as the droughts are suspected to blow with the winds. No doubt it is an easy way to insulate your loft. This method is much effective for spaces where the joists are found irregularly positioned and where elements like pipes create obstacles to apply the blanket insulation.
Sheet Insulation -
Sheet insulation is perfect for insulating the slopping attic area. This form of insulation is utilized to fix the spaces between the rafters. The materials of this insulation method are comprised of semi-rigid batts of mineral fibre and lightweight rolls. In the case of plasterboard coated finishing, a thin sheet is sufficient for insulating the loft. Keep proper gaps between the roof tiles to prevent condensation.
