What is a Blackout Blind?
A blackout blind is made from a thicker material than a standard blind which prevents light from filtering through into your room. Roller blinds, roman blinds, vertical blinds and Velux blinds can be purchased with blackout materials. A blackout blind does not have to be black or made from dark material. Your choice of colours and patterns is just as varied for blackout blinds as standard blinds.
Benefits of a Blackout Blind
1.Darkness
A blackout blind will make your room completely dark with no light seeping in at the window so they are perfect in bedrooms for light sleepers.
2.Children & Babies
They are fantastic for children’s bedrooms especially in the summer when we get very few dark hours. A blackout blind will make their room look like night at 7pm when the sun is still up and will stop them from waking up at 5am when the sun is rising.
- Shift Workers
They are also ideal for people who work shifts and need to get some sleep during the day.
- Migraines
Many people who suffer from migraines need a completely darkened room to feel better. A blackout blind is a perfect solution.
- Thermal Insulation
A blackout blind will keep your room warm in the winter by stopping heat escaping and in the summer, it can help keep your room cool by keeping the sun out.
- Noise
They are also great for noise reduction if you live on a busy road.
Types of Blackout Blinds
Almost all blinds have a blackout option except venetian blinds as too much light can seep in between the slats.
Roller blinds are the most common choice for a blackout blind but you can opt for a roman blind or vertical blind. If you want a blackout blind it is best to opt for a made to measure option or you could pay extra for the blackout material and then be left with a small gap of light around the edges of the blind.
If you have Velux windows, their blackout blinds are excellent as they also completely cover the window.
Forth Blinds in East Lothian can provide blackout blinds for both domestic and commercial clients.
