Fashion Illustration is a reflection of a designer’s mind full of various ideas. The illustration of fashion through drawings, illustrations, paintings is referred as Fashion Illustrations. Fashion Illustration is closely associated with the reproduction of fashion in the magazines, for the promotion and advertisement of the fashion designers, stores and boutiques.
As the clothes came into being, a need was felt to translate the idea and portray the image of the fashion, to the customer. As the time passed, the Fashion Illustration became a necessity to bring out the design on paper. Many philosophers refer. Fashion Illustration as the visual luxury.
An effective illustration of the clothes is very helpful in portraying the image of the attire better than a photograph. Fashion illustration is the bridge between a designer’s idea and the style coming to life Moreover, the fashion illustrators have very significant position in the eyes of the designers, as their drawings enable the designers to determine the direction of their work, and make their collection appear more unified. Fashion illustration restores a moment through the lenses of artistic style, attitudes reflective of the time period, and the latest trends in fashion, which has its own set of connotations.
The advancement in the field of photography changed the working manner of the Fashion illustrators. Many designers hire fashion illustrators to assist them for designing clothes and to gather the attention of the potential buyers. An effective illustration of the clothes is very helpful in portraying the image of the attire better than a photograph. Though the need for both styles lie on the designer’s end.
Fashion Illustration is divided into three distinctive categories. The sensualist depicts the work with the traditional form of processes and the materials. The technocrats employ the digital means of creating the images. And the Gamines and Sophisticates are playful in their work which reflects the whimsical references of the traditional forms of the fashion illustrations.
Along a good hand on Illustrations, the need to learn digital Illustration is high as it gives you the scope to be quick to upload and send across and make changes to the demand and requirement .Digital illustration involves using digital tools to create beautiful art work and many of these tools involve using a stylus to draw on a digital canvas. Digital illustration tools include bitmap graphics tools and vector graphics applications. Bitmaps specify the exact color of each pixel in a linear and column format. Vector graphics rely on algorithms and mathematical formulas to render a display.
CorelDraw and Adobe Photoshop are the two main vector software packages in graphic design industry but CorelDRAW is still the most popular vector design software in the professional computer-aided fashion design industry used by majority of illustrators and designers to produce original illustrations, signage, and logos for both print and web. Whereas Adobe Photoshop, a graphics-editing program is used in fields as diverse as architecture, astronomy, animation, forensics, web design. The program's versatile nature makes it useful for a huge range of imaging tasks, create and manipulate images. This essential graphic software is a part of Adobe’s inventive Suite, that may embrace artist, InDesign, Flash, Dreamweaver, Acrobat Pro, Lightroom, and several other tools. Photoshop’s primary functions embrace image writing, website style, and therefore the creation of components for any style of project. Developed alongside with Adobe Photoshop as a companion product, Adobe illustrator is used for creating logos, graphics, cartoons and fonts for the photo-realistic layouts of Adobe Photoshop. Some of the other lead softwares to illustrate and design are Autodesk Sketchbook, Corel Painter, Art weaver, ArtRage,Inkscape etc.
