Models that specialize in displaying new fashion trends are called as fashion models. Some fashion models attain dizzying heights of success. Models are predominantly female; however, the number of male models is slowly on the rise.

There are different forms of modeling. Pornography is also a kind of modeling, and the models performing in them are called sex models. Models and fashion magazine covers are complementary to each other’s successes. Supermodel Naomi Campbell shot to instant celebrity fame when she was used on the cover of the French fashion magazine Vogue. In fact, the popularity of a model is often gauged by the number of fashion covers that he or she has appeared in. Claudia Schiffer holds the record here – she has appeared on the covers of more than 400 fashion magazines. Magazines that depend on supermodels to sell their covers are Elle, Vogue, Marie Claire and Playboy, among others.

However, the modeling industry is much more than the world of supermodels. People who wish to become models have to struggle. The conventional way to become a model is to get a portfolio done and approach a fashion agency. Several youngsters are smitten by the glamour and the money in the modeling industry, so it has become an industry rife with competition. The success ratio in modeling could be one in a million.
