PageRank is represented numerically from a low of PR0 to a rarely achieved high of PR10. PageRank is not a series of equal steps. PageRank is but one of several factors Google uses to place a web page in the search engine results pages. PageRank is especially challenging since it is hard to even arrive at a consensus within the industry. Does it impact rankings?
PageRank is passed from page to page depending on the link structure of your website. You can direct more PageRank to your most important pages by adding links to them from less important pages that you don't need to rank highly. PageRank is a probability distribution used to represent the likelihood that a person randomly clicking on links will arrive at any particular page. PageRank can be calculated for any-size collection of documents. PageRank is a "rank" for a website and ranges from zero to ten (0 - 10). You will notice that high respected websites have a higher PageRank assigned whereas new websites will have a lower PageRank.
PageRank is actually a subset of more generalized network "influence" algorithms. For example, PageRank only looks to see if there are links or not between nodes. PageRank is but one of perhaps 100 different factors which Google may use to determine exactly where your listing will appear in a given search. That's all that matters, top 10-20 placement in a search. PageRank is Google's way of deciding a page's importance. It matters because it is one of the factors that determines a page's ranking in the search results.

The value of the PageRank for a given site determines the position in the sorted order where a particular page will be listed. PageRank is scored with a value of zero to 10, zero being the least relevant and 10 being the most relevant. Very few Web sites are able to obtain the highest ranking of 10. PageRank is displayed on the Google toolbar and in the Google directory . The toolbar PR is a scale with 10 steps, while the directory PR is a scale with 7 steps.
PageRank is a link analysis algorithm that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of "measuring" its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references. PageRank is Google’s way of deciding a page’s importance. It matters because it is one of the factors that determines a page’s ranking in the search results. PageRank is irrelevant now. It doesn’t affect search engine results.
Google spiders in particular are called Googlebots. There are different types of bots. Google is now driving linking, not the other way around. Google AdSense employs JavaScript to place ads on to a specific website that has chosen to participate in the program. AdSense is widely used as a method for capitalizing on a site?s content.

Then 1- p is the fraction of time that an arbitrary page is chosen. Google?s original intention was to show the public the value of a web page by showing it?s Google PageRank number. Originally, many years ago, when it was first introduced, that idea was a good one.
Google uses this relevancy ranking in conjunction with query relevancy to determine the results you see -- not only term relevant results but also sites others (as determined through link analysis) feel are important. GoogleGuy didn't say that the comments in the first statement are wrong. He said that toolbar users use the PageRank display to judge the quality of web pages. Google exceeds all international standards for the ethical treatment of its pigeon personnel. Google considers each hit to be one of several different types (title, anchor, URL, plain text large font, plain text small font, .), each of which has its own type-weight. The type-weights make up a vector indexed by type. Google almost certainly performs many more. Googlers will claim that if you build something like myspace, you can catch up pretty quick.
