Hi there!
I know that every one has their own different style of playing the guitar or guitar play, and when your learning to play the guitar it can be hard enough to get a rhythm let alone a strum to keep in time with a band etc.
Until you find the right learn to play guitar course keep practicing because the sky is the limit.
When you look back in history you will find that there are a lot of different styles of guitar playing that have given that uniqueness to a lot of different bands.
Some of the styles of playing the guitar have come from classic rock, grunge, pop, metal, rock, hard rock, classical, Spanish to country, reggae, and blues.
The Gibson Electric Guitar
When we look at the electric guitar which has to be one of the most popular instruments in the world and look at some of the brands we can see that the Gibson (which is highly sought after) brand has quality craftsmanship.
In fact Gibson pioneered the Humbucker pick ups (which is why they give a massive rich and quality sustained sound).
Did you know that Jimmy Page from Led Zeplin and Slash from Guns n Roses are just two wicked guitarists who favor and like the Gibson Les Paul when they are going hard playing on the guitar?
Man the Gibson Les Paul has been and still is renowned for being built for reliability, the ease of use and a huge richness of sound (Cast your minds away for a minute and think of Slash hammering that Gibson Les Paul heavy body and a stop tailpiece).
And if you want an accurate tune o metric bridge plus two Humbucker pick ups that provide a unique natural sustain then you need to think of the Gibson Les Paul.
(Now sustain is very simply the length of time a note continues to ring after it is played.)
The thick wire frets and tonal qualities of the Les Paul make it a dream to play and at low volume the Les Paul provides a jazzy mellow round tone BUT if you crank it up you get a rich, leading sustained sound.
Check out AC/DC's Angus Young, now Angus Young loved to hammer out guitar play on the Gibson SG, he used to make SG sing.
The Gibson SG is a not to distant relative to the Gibson Les Paul and the SG is famous for its shape with its distinctive double cutaways.
Some say the distinctive double cutaways look like devils horns (I couldn't possibly comment on that). The Gibson SG is liked for its blues and rock sound.
Some models of the Gibson SG only come out with just one lead pick-up and that gives it its raw raunchy sound!
And NOW..........
The Fender Electric Guitar
Hey now the Fender electric guitar, yes the legionary Fender Stratocaster (or the Strat as some have called it) is the most famous of the Fender family. Now because I have owned one I can tell you that they are magic to play.
The Fender Stratocaster has kept the classical Fender design for more than 40(forty) years.
The Fender Stratocaster or Strat has a three single coil pick-up and a three or five way pick-up selector which enables a wide range of tones and sounds.
With twin cutaway horns it makes easy pickings to reach the high frets not to mention the contoured body which makes playing a breeze.
The Fender Stratocaster produces a massive colorfully bright ringing quality.
If you think of Jimi Hendrix and the raft of amazing sounds he created with his left handed Stratocaster.
Then there is Eric Clapton with a crisp sweet sound, or you might prefer Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple.
Don't forget about Dire Straights and Mark Knopfler who led them either because they all had one thing in common.......they all had fun playing their Fender Stratocasters and they sure did love the Fender Stratocasters they owned (but we knew that any way).
The Telecaster or should I say the Fender Telecaster is like a Chunky work horse. The workmanlike Fender Telecaster is well known for massive chords and percussive playing.
The Fender Telecaster has a punchy sound due to its relatively short sustain. Now sustain is very simply the length of time a note continues to ring after it is played.
Have you ever listened to Pink Floyd?......no I mean really listened to Pink Floyd?
Well if you ever have listened to Pink Floyd you will know why Dave Gilmoure likes the Telecaster. The sound Dave Gilmoure can produce is truly inspiring.
Bruce Springsteen and Keith Richards are another couple of guitar play Telecaster fans. They (Bruce Springsteen and Keith Richards) have also made their marks so to speak and indeed continue to make their marks as I am sure they will continue to do for a long time yet.
There are so many different styles of Guitar Play or ways to play your guitar and you will either produce or adopt a style that will be your own.
Who knows YOU might even make history one day!
But until that day arrives enjoy your choice and pick of guitar, remember there are so many different types and makes available on the market so choose one that suits you, the one that is best for you.
Until next time enjoy your guitar and playing your guitar.
Kind Regards,
Carl
