When choosing the ideal floor coating or floor covering for concrete floor, most would recommend epoxy floor coating. Epoxy coating has a great number of advantages and is a great option for your garage concrete floor.
Many people choose epoxy coating over other floor coverings due to the following reasons:
Epoxy coating makes the floor impact-resistant. The garage is one of the most heavily used areas of your home; heavily used being that it takes in a lot of weight, from your car to your stuffed boxes and tools and other equipment. With this amount of weight going in and out of the garage, you would want your floor to bear the weight without getting scratches or cracks.
Epoxy floor coating also has slip resistance. There may be dangerous objects in your garage --- tools left on floor, sharp objects just on the side, etc. It is imperative that you have a floor that allows you to walk comfortably, with no worries about slipping or sliding and getting into an accident in your own garage.
Epoxy coated floors are also very easy to clean. Epoxy coating gives the floor a surface that makes it dust-free and very cleanable. Epoxy coating also makes your floor waterproof and resistant to any chemicals that may be damaging to an unprotected floor.
Basically, epoxy floor coating has nothing but benefits for you. It helps protect your concrete floor from wear and cracks. It is resistant to chemical corrosion and chemical deterioration. It helps create a safe and clean garage for your home and helps reduce any effort on your part to maintain a well-kept garage.
Perhaps the only main problem you'll have with epoxy floor coating is in the preparation and application of the coat to the concrete floor. There are many instances wherein the epoxy floor coating would fail to stick the the concrete. Most often it is because of the poor preparation of the surface where the coating will be applied to. This is not always the reason for a failed application, however, and there are still times when the application of epoxy coating will still fail despite a good preparation.
A lot of work and effort has to be exerted when using epoxy coating on floors. A lot of caution and requirements for the surface is taken into serious consideration. You have to think about the humidity, the temperature, the kind of concrete you have, etc., and decide on the best epoxy coating for the floor. Luckily for homeowners, they do not have to contend with this job.
Epoxy floor coating is a tedious and challenging job. Calling a professional to do this on your garage floor is reasonable and recommended. Epoxy coating cannot be learned as easily as we would like it to be so that we can do the work ourselves. Problems like adhesion and mixtures may arise. Consulting with the supplier of the epoxy coating is the best step in applying epoxy coating to your garage floor.
