There is nothing that makes a room more stylish than a charming sheepskin rug. Full sheepskin rugs are an absolutely beautiful addition to any room. As well as looking very stylish they also add a warm, cosy feel to the room like no other rug can. They are usually very soft and silky to the touch and just thinking about a sheepskin rug makes you think of warmth, comfort and sleeping.

Sheepskin rugs come in all shapes and sizes and can be used in a number of ways. You can get designer rugs and even have a custom made rug to suit your personal taste. They are organic, which means they are ecologically friendly. Also, 100% sheep skin rugs will not easily tear, rip or lose their shape. They are static free, water resistant, will not shed hair and will retain their shape and beauty for years to come. Natural sheepskins contain lanolin which is a moisturiser and lubricant. For sheep the lanolin would act as a waterproofing wax which helps them to shed water from their coats.

Mainly sheepskin rugs are made in countries that have years of experience in keeping and producing sheep products. Some of the major exporters are England, Australia and New Zealand. South Africa is another country that produces luxury sheepskins. In the past the main colour of these rugs was white but now the variety is much larger. You can now get rugs in many different colours to suit any interior décor. Dyeing sheepskin wool is pretty simple for the artists that make them, meaning rug companies can offer rugs in almost any colour you wish. They are available in very dark colours like burgundy, blues and dark greens and also very light pastel colours. The beauty of these rugs is that the material is resistant to germs and bacteria and is very durable and easy to clean.

Many people choose to place their sheepskin rugs on the top of their beds as a type of bed spread, making your bed all the more inviting. More traditional is placing the rug by a modern or traditional fireplace creating a very inviting place to cosy up for both pets and owners.

Looking after your sheepskin rug is fairly easy. You can actually wash it by hand or by machine using warm or cold water. You need to use a special wool skin wash which is designed solely for sheepskin rather than normal soaps or detergents though. Once washed you should let it dry naturally and then brush it back to that lovely luxury, fluffy look.

You can’t beat sheepskin rugs for softness and luxuriousness, no other rug comes close. So if you have decided you want to purchase one get looking around the internet. There are plenty of online shops offering different types of sheepskin rugs, you will be spoilt for choice.
