If you were to leave your home to go somewhere and you were gone for a while, if the water hose on your washer were to fall off or if the hose were to break, you could come home to a wet or flooded basement. The hose that goes to your washer is always on so your water will keep on running all over your floor until you are back home and you shut off the main water faucet. If this were to happen, you will have a usually pretty big mess to clean up. So first make yourself a mental list of the items you will need to clean this water up.
You will need a mop and bucket, plenty of rags, maybe a small shop-vac and a dehumidifier to help with the left over water that you just can clean up with a mop. If you can get your furniture out in the lawn to maybe help it dry faster, then do so and if it isn't dry by evening and you have a shed or some room in your garage, you might want to move them to this place to finish drying. If these aren't finished drying by morning, you might want to put them back out in the yard to soak up the sun.
You will need to fix your washer hose before you use it again or you will have this happen again. With the shop-vac, you will need to try to remove as much of this water as possible and then set up the dehumidifier and just leave it running all of the time until the tub that you will have to empty doesn't fill back up. With this dehumidifier, you might be surprised to find out how much water you have in your basement walls, ceilings, and floors.
If you find out that you have all of this water, you might try to find some way to get rid of this it by putting in a sealant, but this job will have to be done by professionals. They will be able to fix this problem the right way and with the right tools. Then you will only have to run this dehumidifier for a couple of days until there isn't any water to pull out. If you don't have this sealant put in and you have carpets in your basements, you should run this dehumidifier all of the time because if you don't, you will have your carpets looking like the high waves on the ocean. This will mean that you have the water back again.
