In winter months, you will come across several ways to receive water damage. You will run into the ice storms, heavy rains, or even snow storms, and all of these will help in the chances of your getting some form of water damage. As these are all forms of water, they will cause damage to whatever they land on. Some of them will show their effects sooner than the other, but they will all do some kind of damage. This year has been the worst for bad weather all over our country from ocean to ocean, north to south, east to west. It seems that no state has been spared from the cold nasty weather. We have had several states that got a lot of rain and then in other states, they received ice and a lot of it.
This one ice storm started close to the west coast and traveled all the way to the east coast. It caused so much damage that we still have thousands of people without power. They have had to leave their homes as most of them don't have heat, and this will lead to many cases of frozen and broken water pipes. This storm has also caused several cases of broken and fallen electric lines from all of the heavy ice that built up on them. It also caused several cases of tree limbs falling on these lines, and some said that you could hear the popping of these lines for miles. This kept happening for days.
In some states, you had all three of these conditions show. They would have the rain first and as the temperature dropped, you might have some ice and then the temperature would drop again, turning this ice to snow. We had so many people trying to just get home that the road workers and the tow trucks couldn't keep up. As the night wore on, the temperatures kept falling and with all of the lines breaking, more people lost their lights and they had to start going to any place that still had heat. They were saying that some of them might be without electricity until mid February or longer.
In these kinds of storms, you will need to do whatever you can to stay safe and warm. When the weather just gets nasty and you have heavy ice, don't stay in your homes. Just find someplace warm and wait out the storm.
