When it comes to user friendly features, the Datacard SP35 Plus has something for everyone. This single sided printer is designed to make the entire card creation process uncomplicated. One benefit of this equipment is evident before it is even removed from the packing box. Weighing in at less than 10 pounds, this compact and efficient model won't strain anyone's back during installation! The desk space required for this unit is minimal since the input and output hoppers are both accessibly located on the front of the machine.
The Datacard SP35 gives both audible and visual prompts to make operation intuitive and straightforward. An internal roller provides constant cleaning as each ID passes through. This prevents dust and debris from building up in the card path. For more thorough maintenance, the interior of the machine can be easily accessed through the top cover. Quick change ribbons take just moments to switch out and even the print head can be replaced by the end user.
Up to 100 cards may be loaded into the top hopper in a single stack for automated processing. An optional alert system can be added to notify the operator when this feeder needs to be reloaded. This is especially useful for large batch printing of monochrome cards (the printer can produce these at speeds of up to 750 per hour).
Bright full color images produced by the SP35 card printer afford edge-to-edge coverage for maximum visual impact. Dye sublimation offers continuous tone printing with one shade blending seamlessly into the next. This high temperature process actually opens up tiny pores in the card surface during printing and permanently bonds the vaporized dye with the PVC material. The resulting image is vivid and smudge-proof. Resin ink ribbons bring black text out in sharp definition for enhanced readability. The use of a topcoat or laminate can add a final layer of durability to each card.
Only a few simple steps are necessary to connect the Datacard printer to any available PC with a USB port. The print driver is compatible with Windows 2000, XP, and Vista. This driver program offers the ability to adjust color intensity and preview each card before printing. It also includes a "help" feature linking to online sources for basic troubleshooting. The supply usage tracking tab delivers enhanced control over consumables inventory (it also works well in conjunction with Datacard's "intelligent" supplies). Topcoat etching to add patterns or logos is supported by this software.
For customers who wish to start with the basics and add options over time, the SP35 printer makes sense. Unlike equipment from other manufacturers, many encoding modules for this brand are field upgradeable. This means they can be installed at any time and don't have to be purchased all at once. Scheduling this type of additional expenditure is a very attractive option for companies that are strapped for cash. It makes sense to purchase a printer that is inexpensive but can later be modified to embrace advanced ID card technology as funds become available.
