Fort Lauderdale is the name of one of the most prominent city of the South Florida metropolitan area. The city is globally noted as the ‘Venice of America’ which is in itself speaking about significance of the city. The city does not own any professional sports team but has been closely associated with sports activities. Of course, there are numerous attractions in the city and Fort Lauderdale transportation makes it accessible with its fine services. Local bus transportation in the city is provided by Broward County Transit (BCT). It connects the city with other prominent areas viz. Palm Tran in Palm Beach County, and Metrobus in Miami-Dade County. Three major interstate highways (I-75, I-95, I-595) and U.S. Highways like U.S. 1, U.S. 27 & U.S. 441 serve Broward County. There are four railroads for Fort Lauderdale. There are exclusive lines for freight like, Florida East Coast Railroad and CSX Transportation. Florida’s deepest port (Port Everglades), integral petroleum receiving point and nation’s third busiest cruise port is also situated here.
City’s main airport and the fastest growing airport of the country is Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. It is located at Dania Beach which is eight km far from the nearest beaches and five km far from the southwest of the centre of Fort Lauderdale. Its proximity with the cruise line terminals at port Everglades makes it more special. There are four terminals and a rental car centre at the airport. There is estimation that more than 5400 cars are available at the rental car centre.
Terminals one, two and three are for domestic flights and terminal four is devoted to international flight. If you have arrived at terminal one then just follow the signs to the concourse B pedestrian bridge. There is shuttle bus service on the baggage claim level. Apart from shuttle bus services, 24 hours yellow cab taxis are also available from the transportation podium located outside the baggage area.
