Take a look around at your house. Don’t you feel like your bedroom has shrunken recently? Are you always hunting for some space to walk to your room? Do you keep delaying your parents’ visit because you have no space left to accommodate them? If the answer to all above questions is "YES", you are in a desperate need of a bigger house. If your pocket does not allow you to buy one, then go for a house extension.
The only requirement to be met to think of house extension is enough outside space for that. Now that you have made up your mind and decided the space where you need extension, sit with all your family members and invite their ideas to make a rough plan of the desired extension.
Permissions:
Hire an experienced architect and show him your plan to give a brief idea of what you are looking for. The architect can sketch a detailed view of the extensions with all the minor details and measurements of the area extended. Do get the plan approved by the local council planning department to avoid later demolition and chaos.
Finance and Insurance:
Under the consultation of the architect, take an estimate of how much will the house extension cost you. Many banks offer loan for renovation and extensions. Make a detailed survey, chose the bank offering the best interest rate and get your house extension financed.
Do not let the small fact to slip out of your mind that the bigger your house will be the higher will be its insurance.
Hidden Costs:
There are many hidden costs that come up as you gradually carry on the course of construction. If you have used up the garden area for the extension purpose then you may have to landscape the remaining area again. Similarly, if the kitchen is extended, a new kitchen has to be fitted. The cost also includes that of new curtains, new flooring and probably new furniture.
The construction time can cause a little bedlam that may hamper the order of your house but at the end, the whole new extended, spacious house, will definitely bring an enchanting smile on your face.
