If you are on a tight budget and you cannot afford the foam,simply using the weather stripping to stop drafts from coming in on the sides and underneath will help.It likely will not register much of an R Value,but if it is all you can do this season,you are better off taking this one step than not doing anything at all.

If you happen to have some wall insulation lying around,you could use that,but it tends to be unsightly and it can be dangerous to small children and pets.You will still need to add weather stripping in this instance,as well.
