Tempered auto glass is an ordinary auto glass that has undergone a certain process where it is has been heated then rapidly cooled. Such process makes the auto glass a lot stronger compared to an ordinary auto glass.
The side and rear windows of your car are the ones made by a tempered auto glass. Tempered auto glass does not break too easily especially with just light impact. But when a sever accident occurs providing a huge blow and severe impact on the auto glass, the tempered auto glass automatically disintegrates into very small pieces about the size of a rock salt.
Upon disintegration, you are assured that there won't be a single jagged piece of glass that is large enough to injure the driver and its passengers. This is one of the safety measures that usually come with an auto glass. But then, the force needed to break through a tempered auto glass requires much more than that of an un-tempered one
However, there are some vehicles that have been sold with un-tempered auto glass and this raises the risk of injury for the driver and its passengers.
Before purchasing an automobile, it is also necessary and extremely important to look for all the safety features of the car including tempered auto glass if there's any rather than just look into the engine of the car.
Tempered auto glass is by far the safest type of auto glass installed for the side and rear windows. A different type of auto glass is installed for the windshield of your car which needs a much more reliable heavy duty strength to withstand the worst of cases.
Tempered auto glass has been developed to answer the additional safety feature needed for the driver and the passengers of the car. The development of a tempered auto glass requires several tests and trials to determine the quality of the whole glass before it gets cut out and installed in the car.
Whenever the processed auto glass fails to meet the standards for a reliable tempered auto glass, the glass is then renewed under the same reheating process and subjected to the same test and trial process to ensure high quality.
It is extremely important to have sufficient knowledge regarding various parts of the car especially the auto glass. An auto glass is not considered an accessory for the car but as an important part where the safety of the driver and its passengers lie.
