There are several types of nursing bras currently on the market. Your personal preference and comfort will be the deciding factor in choosing the right nursing bra for you. You may have to try several styles before finding the one that works best for your lifestyle and comfort! Before purchasing the perfect nursing bra makes sure you take a tape measure and measure around the largest part of your breasts. Than you need to measure right underneath your breasts around your rib cage.

When purchasing your first bra for breastfeeding, make sure that you do this in the middle of pregnancy or later. Normal bras used by women can still be used so long as you still feel comfortable using them. As mentioned, a nursing bra also has designated cup sizes, therefore you must choose the right size for you. Not having the right cup size for your bra will make you feel more uncomfortable when breastfeeding. Ideally, nursing bras should be made with quality stretchable material in order to shape the size of the woman's breasts.

Nursing bras come with an important function that regular ones don't have. The nursing flap. This typically attaches at the top of the bra cup and unclips, so that you can easily nurse your baby. You want this clip to last for a year (many women nurse that long) and not wear out sooner. Also, quality and comfort usually go hand in hand. So the better quality of bra that you buy the more comfortable it will be.

Finding the best bra for your personal needs doesn't have to be difficult. Look at the bras that you wear now, and get one that is similar. If you love underwire, you will most likely love it when you are nursing. If you hate underwire, it probably will be the same when you are nursing. One thing you do want to do though is make sure that your new bra doesn't have any seems across the cups. This will make it much more comfortable. When choosing your bra, make sure that you go with what you like now and you should be good to go.

Keep in mind that breast size does change during pregnancy and post-maternity days. And so, the breast size you have before pregnancy may differ when you are into the second trimester of your pregnancy, and may even increase or decrease up to the time when you are already breastfeeding your baby. Make sure the nursing bra is easy to use. Again, a well made nursing bra will allow easy opening using just one hand. Make sure you buy a maternity bra with plastic clips or hooks and eyes - both are easy to open with one hand, though hook and eye can be trickier that plastic clips to redo.

A good nursing bra makes breastfeeding easy. A nursing bra is designed to open at each cup. A good nursing bra should open at the cup but still provide plenty of support for the breast, making breastfeeding easier. Make sure you buy a nursing bra that you can open with one hand; you should also be able to close it one-handed as well. Most brands come with plastic clips - such as Medela and Elle Macpherson, or eye and hook - such the Goddess and Bravado maternity bras.
