Just designing a website is not enough to start making money from it. You have to make the website design search engine friendly so that it can be easily read by search robots. No matter how user friendly and easily navigable your website is, if search engines find it difficult to read, it will not get a higher rank in search engine result pages (SERPs).

Search engine optimized websites also help to draw targeted traffic from search engines, resulting in better conversion of visitors to buyers. So, make sure that the codes, Meta tags, content, images, etc. are designed keeping in mind factors that are important for search engine optimization (SEO).

Check out some tips that will help you to create a search engine friendly website design:

• Don’t Depend Entirely on Flash for The Design of Your Website: Search engine robots or crawlers can hardly read any text that is embedded in a flash file. However, they can easily read normal text. Thus, by the judicious placement of text you can easily make your website design search engine friendly. A mix of plain text and flash banners can do the trick.

• Avoid a Lot of Java Script in Your Website Design: A search engine friendly web design should ideally do away with a lot of Java script, making it easier for search engines to read/ crawl the website. Java script is no doubt beneficial to make the website design user friendly, but it is also very important to make it search engine friendly if you are focusing on increasing your sales from the website.

• Stay Away from Dynamic URLs: Websites that are database driven or script based, generally use dynamic URLs for their web pages. But these are not listed by search engines in their result pages, so try to avoid them. In case, it is necessary for you to use dynamic URLs, try to have a main page without such type of URL, so that it can be easily found by search engine bots.

• Use Standard HTML Navigation Schemes: You won’t want search engine crawlers to get stuck while reading image maps on your website. Image maps often stop search engine crawlers to inventory your site accurately. Therefore, whenever possible use standard HTML navigation schemes in your website design.

• Get Rid of Hidden Text on your Web Pages: Hidden text denotes any text that is present on a web page but is invisible to users. Even though they won’t cause any harm, your web page won’t get a ranking in SERPs if there is any hidden text in it. Earlier webmasters misused hidden texts by stuffing web pages with keywords to get higher rankings in search engines using unscrupulous techniques. Hence, such pages are not considered by advanced search engine robots for showing on SERPs.

• Avoid Using Frames in your Website’s Design: Using frames in website designing was a common practice earlier as they are faster to design and easy to handle. But frames are not search engine friendly and should be avoided as much as possible, especially for the home/ index page.

Even if you have designed a search engine friendly website, it won’t assure you the top listing for any keyword or key phrase. However, if you don’t optimize the design of your website, it won’t stand a chance for any kind of ranking in search results. So, follow the above mentioned tips to make your website design search engine friendly and move a step towards the top position in SERPs.
