The Gems & Jewellery industry encompasses vast varieties of diamond jewellery and accessories which are available in attractive designs for all purposes and occasions. It fulfills different requirements of people both traditional and modern. Diamonds have become very popular due to their rarity, beauty and endurance. They fit with all sorts of occasions and work very well with several metals such as gold, silver, palladium, titanium and so on. The availability of these fascinating stones, cut and set with new techniques have broadened their appeal in developing markets
Skilled jewellery designers create breathtaking designs using combinations of diamonds with several other gemstones. The heritage of diamonds gives them an edge over other types of gemstones in the market. Diamonds are used in rings, necklaces, ear rings, bracelet, nose rings, watches, tie-pins, pens; an almost endless array of accessories. Diamond jewellery is compatible with casual gatherings, special events and make great holiday gifts. One may wear a simple diamond ring everyday or opt for a large diamond necklace for special gatherings.
Prices of diamonds vary significantly and are based on the 4C’s; Color, Clarity, Cut and Carat weight. Mass market jewellery usually have diamonds which are smaller and/or of lower color and clarity. Diamonds used in jewellery for special occasions are usually larger and hence more expensive. There is no established world market for diamonds, however, the standardization of the 4C’s along with pricing reports have provided some transparency to consumers in recent years. Platinum, as a base metal, is being adopted in jewellery, however, it faces significant challenges due to extreme price volatility and perceived stability and inherent value of Gold. Silver too, has maintained its position as an affordable store of value. Natural diamonds are expensive as compare to artificial or cultured diamonds. American diamonds are available at reasonable prices while the jewellery involving natural diamonds is expensive.
There are designers in the market who produce high quality, up market, diamond jewellery. The range of designers, retailers and manufactures of jewellery has increased significantly due to an ever expanding ‘millionaire’ class and very low barriers to entry to the industry.
Diamonds are the most precious and pure form of carbon on earth. They are rare hence are expensive. Throughout history, diamonds have been regarded as symbols of wealth, power and purity. Several significant stones have become legends in their own right and are displayed in museums around the world.
