If you're looking for a holiday in Turkey that has a the perfect harmony of class and adventure, beautiful beaches, hills that are amazing to hike in, a bit of history mixed in and still is affordable then glance no further on the map than the Turkish holiday resort of Fethiye. Fethiye is a historic and modern town located in southwest Turkey that's attainable by air, by car, and by boat.
Historically speaking, Fethiye dates back to around the fifth century BC. The original name of Fethiye is actually Telmessos and it's said that the city was founded by the Anatolian Civilization. Back during the ancient days, the people of Fethiye were best known for being adept in all matters related to the sea and the city was a hub for prophecy. The city has been through numerous invasions but the citizens were never forced to leave as they were occupied by the Lycians, the Romans, the Ottoman and the Greeks.
At the Fethiye Archeology Museum there are artifacts to be seen that date as far back as the Lycian rulers of old. Around the city, there are many historic sights to tour which include the tomb of Amyntas and the second theater built by the Romans.
Deciding on where to stay in or around Fethiye is but a mouse click or phone call away to one of the many hotels located in and around the area. If you're of the mind that a rustic retreat would work out well for your Turkish holiday you may want to make reservations at the Yuva Eco Holiday Center. The Yuva Eco Consists of cottages and log cabins, and serves both breakfast and dinner and both are included in the price. These cottages and cabins are fourteen miles from Fethiye near the Oludeniz Lagoon and they provide vehicle service from both the Dalaman and the Antalya airports. Views of the sparkling Mediterranean are available from at least one area of your cabin or cottage of choice. Another great hotel to check out is the Celey Hotel which is perched on a lovely hillside between Fethiye and Oludeniz. There are 46 rooms, each with a view of the center pool. Inside the hotel, there is a full service restaurant as well as a pool side bar that makes this hotel and ideal place to relax when you're not out exploring the nearby towns or beaches. A mini bus is available at the hotel for those who need transportation. Family apartments and a presidential suite are features of this hotel along with an area to play pool and the hotel also comes equipped with air conditioning.
Ordering up some awesome Turkish food is easy if you decide to dine at the Sultan Pepper where delicious Turkish, Mexican and Indian food are served. If you're from the United Kingdom and missing home or you're an out-of-the country tourist looking for a foreign variety you may want to check out the Yelken Restaurant. Their specialty includes tasty dishes ranging from the braised liver onion to the minced pie. Craving a cappuccino or a banana pancake? Look no further than the Buzz Café on a hot day near Fethiye. The Buzz has internet connections available and it's a great place to relax in the middle of the day when the temperatures are on the rise during the Mediterranean summer.
Favorite activities among the tourist and locals alike are horse back riding, hiking, exploring the lagoons, white water rafting, and swimming in the sparkling, clear waters of the Turkish Coast. Great beach spots include the Butterfly Valley Beach (which can only be accessed by boat) and the Kidrak Beach (awesome if you're looking for a little more seclusion.)
If you like the weather to be cool it's wise to plan your holiday between October and May where the temperatures range from the lower eighties down to the sixties during the day. Hot weather folks will enjoy Fethiye and the surrounding areas during the summer months where the temperatures rise to between the upper eighties and lower nineties.
Adventure, relaxation, home grown meals and some history are a good reason to visit Fethiye and makes for a wonderful and cheap Turkey holiday.
