Do you know exactly about the origin of handbags? Handbags have become essential since people had to carry something with them. Nowadays the items of handbags have changed over time. The very first handbag written in literature was in 14th century. In Egyptian hieroglyphs, it is said people carried pouches around their waist. They also adorned embroidery and jewels on those girdles to show their status so rich people had more elaborate the bag.
In 16th century, there was an air of practicality of handbags. People started to use material such as leather with a drawstring fastener on top. At the same time cloth bags had been made into larger size. People often carried them diagonally across the body for traveling. In 17th century, there were more varieties appearing both for men and women. With the development of handbags, small purses with complex shapes also had become to be used. As a very necessary skill almost every young girl was taught embroidery. It was the most important qualification to be get marry. During the time the beautiful and unique stitched artwork in handbags had become good business.
People started to use the term " handbag " firstly in the early 1900's. Then there were hand-held luggage bags usually carried by men. Those luggages were made from the inspiration of some new bags that had become popular for women. The whole bag has complicated fasteners, internal compartments and fixed locks. Women could put their essentials in it such as jewelers, opera glasses and cosmetics.
In the 1920' there was an important revolution in fashion industry. People had more and more clothing with hemlines and lighter colors. Bags did not necessarily have to match outfits and then stylish lady even carried a doll dressed exactly like her bag. The Egyptian art got the inspiration of the discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb. In the 1940's there was an air of austerity in clothing and handbags because of the cruel world wars. For the short of metal frames, zips, leather, and mirrors, manufacters started to use plastic and wood. In the 1950's there was a rise of some brands, the most luxurious brands now in the world such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Hermes. Since the 60's the old notions of handbags have been breaking down gradually.
Copy of handbags came out unavoidably with the flourish development of fashion industry. Tens of thousand replica handbags are flooding the market . These fake handbags even come with the label of the company they imitated or some others at least have the signature "C" or "G" without the label. From my personal view, for the handbags what people care more about in the future is simply the quality. After all they are used to carried and put your stuff. Nothing could be more important than a durable handbag. And you ? What is your opinion?
