Your cats’ tick problem is something not to be ignored. Aside from the fact that these are blood sucking parasites, your cats’ tick problem can also lead to other medical complications like blood poisoning, feline jaundice and cytauxzoonosis, which is a very fatal form of tick-borne disease.

And to make matters worse, your cats’ tick problem may pass on to your other pets as well, and maybe even to you. An uncontrolled infestation of cats’ tick can lead to tick relapsing fever, meningoencephalitis (viral infection of the central nervous system) and Lyme disease.

Just try to imagine giving your pet cat a good soaking and scrubbing with a flea and tick repellant shampoo. Or have you ever tried giving your pet regular doses of cats’ tick medicines? Not only will you not solve your cats’ tick problem, but you might also get scratched for all your trouble. Fortunately, there are more organic cats’ tick control measures you can practice in your home. Some of these cats’ tick measures are:

1. Opt for a healthier feline diet. Many veterinarians nowadays are advocating a more balanced diet as one way of naturally combating cats’ tick problems. Look at the list of ingredients on the package of your pets’ food and choose the ones that have less artificial ingredients, and more organic based food stuff. Choose also the ones that have everything from meat to vegetables.

It is said that some of our cats’ tick problems may be stemming from a poor diet; or to be more precise: from the vegetarian diet that we are now forcing on many of our pets. This fad is prevalent nowadays. But the thing is: cats are carnivores – always have and always will be. Our feline companions need a healthy dose of meat in order to maintain its internal balance. So if you want to fight your cats’ tick problem organically, make sure you supply your pets with well balanced, but non-vegetarian meals.

2. Use cedar and eucalyptus mulch or wood chips. If you have a garden, try using cedar and eucalyptus mulch. This is one of the safest and most organic cats’ tick control measures you can find. The scent of these mulch types is enough to repel and stun most forms of cats’ tick. Use the wood chips indoors, but try to keep away from your pets because these may become toxic when accidentally ingested.
