When dusting dark specks off your pet fur always try to check it out as they could be flea dirt. The way to test it is to use a piece of white napkin and press on them. If red and brown spots appear, these are flea dirt and blood. There is some cause for alarm but not a life threatening problem if handled correctly. But you probably noticed that you seem to have started scratching yourself all over more often than usual, almost like mirroring your pet. This calls for immediate flea removal action as you already have a flea infestation on hand. With this parasite multiplying at 50 eggs per day, you will be contending with a good size colony within a week.
So it is time to pay your vet specialist a visit. The vet specialist will be your key source of advice and medication to deal with the situation. And as a dog owner who recently weathered the very tiring and seemingly never ending process of flea extermination, I believe that your vet specialist would suggest procedures for fumigating the infested home, de infesting your pet and maintaining flea free home environment. In order to achieve the above, it will have to start with home fumigating, with flea foggers or flea bombs as the default flea extermination tool. They are currently available in the market are rather effective. Check out the safety measures.
Keep the house totally empty when you fumigate, leave the children and pets at a safe place. Before you fog, you need to remove or keep all kitchenware in cupboards and all foods in refrigerators. Remove your furniture or alternatively cover them with strong plastic sheets as some furniture could be damaged by the strong fumigation fumes. Wear gloves when handling the foggers and leave all windows and doors tightly shut before leaving the house. Depending on the strength of the flea fogger, you can only return to the house after 4 to 6 hours. After the routine is completed, clean up all drapes, couch, beddings, carpets thoroughly. All exposed foods must be thrown away and every exposed item in the house must be cleaned.
Fully ventilate the house upon your return and switch on all fans to ensure air circulation. Vacuum the entire house and every inch of space, mop the floorings thoroughly and ensure that you wash all beddings, linen, drapes, couch covers, carpets etc. Dispose of the vacuum bags immediately together with the fogger containers as per instructions.
You are strongly advised to use it with caution as they emit chemicals which could be lethal to certain types of animals and may cause allergies in humans. Those which contain Permethrin have proven to be lethal to cats so be warned. And if you are pregnant, flea foggers must never be used for fumigation purposes. You need to handle them with extreme care as they are extremely flammable, so remember to switch off the stove and do not light fires when you are fumigating your home.
Your flea removal plan only starts with the use of flea foggers, thereafter, you must be conscientious with maintaining good hygiene habits for the entire household, be extra wary of stray animals wandering in your backyard, and remaining vigilant as part of your pet flea control measures as long as you keep little animals around.
