Becoming a bride is a dream come true for you. The wedding date is set and you are busy in preparing for the wedding. It is a tough job but you are enjoying doing it. There is so much to choose from. You have to decide on the menu, cake and the wine. Next in line is the wedding location, the transportation, the flowers, the wedding theme, the bridal party and a lot of other thing. You also spend a lot of time in choosing your bridal dress. But one aspect that is often neglected is the flower girl dress.
A flower girl is usually a girl between the ages of 3 to 10 years. She is the one who makes the first entry before the bride and scatters petals down the aisle. The flower girl should be a little older since then she will play her role satisfactorily.
When you are choosing a flower girl dress, you should keep in mind the age and the height of the girl, the colors and theme used in the wedding and the dress style. Let us have a look at the different styles of flower girl dresses.
The flower girl dresses consist of the bodice which is the upper portion and the skirt which forms the portion of the dress below the waistline. By making variations in these sections, you can get a variety of flower girl dresses.
The first type is the princess flower girl dress. This dress has a full skirt and frills, flowers, ribbons, beads and lace. The most liked in this is the dress with a satin bodice and a double layered full tulle skirt. This dress has a ribbon with a bow or flower wrapped above the waistline. For a fuller look, ask for a crinoline or a hoop slip under the skirt.
Next is the pleated flower girl dress. The one to opt for is the skirt which is longer and has box pleats. These pleats are wide and even and run vertically along the length of the skirt and look flared at the bottom. These dresses look classy and elegant.
Next in line is the flower girl dress which is gathered, pulled and puffed. It looks beautiful. In this the skirt’s top layer of cloth which can be satin or lace is gathered at the hemline or at other places and is then pulled and puffed at these places. By doing this the skirt looks semi-wrinkled. You can ask for flowers to be put up at these places. It will look beautiful and make the pretty girl look even prettier.
Another elegant flower girl dress is the one with a full skirt which has gathered fabric at the hemline. The rest of the fabric drapes around the hemline.
An eternal favorite is the A-line flower girl dress. This dress hugs the girl at the waist and flows freely till the bottom but it is narrow and not flared. Asymmetric skirts have an abstract pattern on the dress. A column skirt has a straight cut and perfect if you are looking for a slender look.
The bodice of the dress can be made of satin and have pearls, flowers or lace. It can be pleated or embroidered. You can choose from a variety of necklines like scoop, sweetheart, halter, boat or V-neckline. The flower girl dresses can have thin spaghetti straps; puff, short or long sleeves, or is sleeveless.
Now that you know what choices are available, make an informed decision and see your perfect wedding become even more perfect!
