There is a very strong belief in the hearts and minds of many people around the world that the world will come to a tragic end on the 21st of December 2012. This day has been referred to as the Doomsday by many philosophers and thinkers the world over. The date has been forecasted by the Mayan people, who have a special calendar of their won, which is known as the Mayan Calendar. In that calendar, the last day of the earth has been denoted as the 21st of December 2012.
But there definitely are doubts regarding the correctness of the prediction and the calculations based on which the forecast has been made. The modern day scientists do not much important to the fact that the earth is about to be destroyed on the 21st of December 2012. The scientists belonging to various space organizations of the world have unanimously declared that there is no celestial activities or events that are about to take place in the year 2012, which may destroy the earth or the populations staying on it.
Modern day philosophers and social scientists are of the opinion that the forecast given by the Mayan Calendar may not be absolutely wrong. They argue that there can be another very positive interpretation of the forecast given by the Mayan Calendar. They are of the opinion that the end of the world actually signifies the end of everything that is old and that has destroyed the world till now. The Mayan forecast signifies that the year 2012 may be the beginning of a new era, a new civilization and a birth of a new world, where everything will be new and fresh. The modern social scientists argue that destruction is always associated with creation. For something new to be created, something old has to be destroyed. So, the Doomsday may not be the end of everything, but rather a new beginning for something that may be better and beautiful than the present.
The best way to judge all of the above claims and counter claims is to wait till the 21st of December 2012 and see for ourselves what happens to the earth and to us.
