A lot of people use them on a day to day basis but some do not know what they are collectively called. The cutlery that is meant to be used for a very long time is made from very durable materials. As it is known that they can be kept for years on end, some people have started to collect them as family heirlooms. They will have them personalized maybe to have a symbol of or their family name on them.

Apart from just the practical part of preparing, eating or serving food, the cutlery one has can be used for another function. It can be used to portray the household's living standards or the class that the family has. For example they can be made from gold and this will show how classy the family is and their level of living. Gold is a symbol of wealth no matter in what shape it is made into.
