Hip hop videos have come a long way since the late 80s. During the late 80s, many videos didn't have anything to show outsides a little jewelry, a few girls and some dance steps. Those days are gone as far as hip hop videos are concerned. Todays videos are filled with more content and a bigger budgets thus promoting an artist's album to another level. Technology plays a big role in today's videos such as animation, graphics and the internet just to name a few. This article will tell exactly how far videos have come since the 80's. Everything from jewelry to big houses to exotic cars will be covered in this article.
Jewelry has played a key part in videos. Rappers spend ten of thousands of dollars on white, yellow, red, blue, and even black diamonds. Colored diamonds are the new thing as far as an artists jewelry is concerned. Colored diamonds, large medallion pieces, multiple chains, diamond encrusted watches and bracelets are part of a lot artists look on or off camera, just ask Gucci Mane.
Rappers love to show their wealth. It's like a symbol of power. Nice, luxurious mansions play a big role in music video shoots. Whether an rapper
may own the home or not is unknown. More than likely yes, but that's not always true. The pool area of a mansion is probably the key place where
videos are shot. Due to party like atmosphere, rappers invite guest celebrities, fellow rappers and a gang of beautiful models dressed in their bikinis and bathing suits which make the video that much more appealing.
The last key ingredient to a successful hip hop video are the exotic cars. From Mercedes to Range Rovers to Bentleys to Rolls Royces to Ferraris and Lamborghinis, once again symbolizing money and wealth. Some rappers even appreciate the older model cars like Cutlass, Impalas and Caprices from the 60s and 70s. It's nothing to put 24" worth of rims on pretty much any vehicle old or new.
Now the internet is a much better place to be free with shooting a video than television. There are pretty much no boundaries when making a "internet friendly" video. Some videos have their unedited versions of the song while others have half or almost fully naked women in them like videos getting shot in a strip club.
Today's hip hop videos have come a long way since the 80s and are here to stay. No one knows what will be seen in a hip hop video next.
