The Water Hyacinth and the Slight Edge book review

As part of my series of articles and videos on The Slight Edge book, written by Jeff Olson, I plan to discuss today the first of the stories at the start of the book.

This story is about how a beautiful Water Hyacinth slowly grew on a pond to a stage that it overtook the pond and you could no longer see the water.

I found this story very interesting when I consider my business. The Water Hyacinth started from very small beginnings to the stage it was the most dominant thing on the pond, including the pond itself. My business has started from very small beginnings and is growing, and growing and I know that if I continue on developing my business, and developing myself, I have the potential to one day be the most dominant business in the industry.

We all do actually. But to achieve this you need to firstly believe in yourself that you can one day dominant the industry you are in. Once you have this belief you then need to make sure you have the right business, which is where turnkey business opportunities are very useful as they are proven businesses that you know will make you successful as long as you are dedicated and passionate about being successful.

Then you need to be patient. Being dominant in your industry does not occur overnight. It takes time and you need to be careful that you dont put too much pressure on yourself about being successful straight away. Building a business takes time, just like it took the Water Hyacinth time to slowly grow from very small beginnings to the stage it had taken over the pond.

Multilevel marketing is very similar to this. Often this can feel like it takes quite a while to get started but before you know it your business is starting to grow. Then the pace starts to increase and before you know it your business is growing so fast you are struggling to keep up. The key is to not get frustrated with the initial slow progress. Dont change your business plan. Keep consistent with what you are doing and eventually your business will take off and the initial foundational building stage of your business will be a long forgotten memory, you wont even have time to reflect since your business is growing so fast!

I have discussed a couple of key points that I took out of the first article at the start of Jeff Olsons The Slight Edge book that relate to my business, which are the importance of believing in yourself that you have the ability to one day be dominant in your chosen market. Secondly the importance of remaining consistent in what you do even if you are not initially get the results you are after. It takes time for a business to grow. I also discussed the linkages to utilising turnkey business opportunities to get your business started quickly and how multilevel marketing is a good business example of how you can exponentially grow your business, just like how the Water Hyacinth exponentially grew within a month from small beginnings to dominant the pond. You also can achieve this utilising these tools.

Have a quick look at my video on this where I provide you a quick insight into how your expectations change as your business changes.
