The e-books and e-ink technology are still a new concept for most of the people. Due to the obvious similarity of the name, they often ask whether the ordinary paper books have lost significance and how is that possible. However, a greater understanding of e-book will elucidate that there are certain differences between the two.
One of the biggest plus point with the book is the overwhelming tradition that is there with it. At the same time, it is a physical product and can be gifted to somebody as well. Certainly, the presence of a book is far more convincing than the electrical version of it. This is why the habit of collection of books is such a popular one. The traditional books are also easy to read.
However, if we shift the perspective from the reader to the author and publisher, we will find that it is easier to preserve the copyrights in case of the paper book. One single book can not be read by more than one person at a single time. So, there is no chance of violating the copyright. Naturally, the publishers are happier with the paper books.
Still, there are certain drawbacks of the paper books. In fact, the physical presence of the book is a limitation itself. There are big books and they are not easily portable, while the small books are difficult to read. Purchasing a book can be a problem as well. In case the book is not available in the local stores, the book has to be ordered from outside and you have to wait until you receive it. Again, after so much of struggle, if you lose the book, it is lost forever. The paper is a tangible object. So, there is every possibility of the book getting spoiled.
It is these shortcomings that the e-book has successfully overcome. It does not occupy any place, you can do backup easily, and you can download them instantly as well. What is more, an e-book reader can read them in whatever font he likes. You can get the e-book from the internet whenever you like and they will withstand the passage of time. For example, according to the article "Amazon Offer Kindle for Sale in Europe - Will they Succeed", the electronic libraries available to Kindle users are vast, with Amazon offering over 200,000 titles in the English language, and publishers such as Penguin, HarperCollins and Faber and Faber signing up to offer Kindle-compatible titles (dbReaders).
There are many factors like this that has fueled the unbelievable e-books market growth. The variety is certainly one of them. There are periodical presses. Thus, there are the e-newspapers along with that there are the magazines, RSS, news and so many other things. In fact, the e-books have elbowed out the printed magazines. For, these online publications can be distributed in a much cheaper cost and a more effective way. As far as the convenience of reading is concerned, e-Reader is ranked second after the printed books. However, there are instances when a person forgets that he is reading an e-book instead of a printed book.
There are different means to read an e-Book. The LCD has become a backdated option. Many prefer the e-paper for e-Readers. eBookwise is another very popular option. However, many believe that the Amazon Kindle and Sony PRS are going to be the face of the future.
