Just as a baby can have a yeast infection, so there can be yeast infection symptoms in men too. Some people may think that only women can get affected by yeast infection in the genital region. Women do have a higher tendency to develop the yeast infections, but even men can develop this genital yeast infection.

Even men, besides women have the Candida yeast in their gut. It is candida overgrowth, which is called Candidas which is yeast infection. Oral thrush, many skin rashes and infections like athlete’s foot are all various forms of yeast infections which are linked to Candida. Genital yeast infections are caused by Candida overgrowth as well as other contributing factors.

There are other causes of yeast infection aside from Candida. It is HIV which causes oral thrush yeast infection in man. The genital region may get penile yeast infection which may be due to various reasons. The factors are detailed below:

  1. Antibiotics – Usually penile yeast infection symptoms in man do not develop from antibiotics, but in rare cases, this may happen. The main reason why this happens is because antibiotics happen to be Candida friendly. Both good bacteria and bad bacteria gets destroyed by them. This creates an imbalance in the gut flora. This may result in Candida overgrowth which in turn, leads to infection.

  2. Diabetes – Yeast infections will be more prevalent in diabetic men as they have high sugar levels in their urine.

Men need to look out for the following penile yeast infection symptoms:

  1. Experiencing itching or irritation in the head of the penis or observing any soreness in that area.

  2. The head of the penis becoming red or having blisters.

  3. Thick and white discharge.

  4. Penis shaft or the surrounding genital area may have little red spots in case the yeast infection is not treated.

In case of any of these symptoms, the man should visit his doctor and get a proper diagnosis done. It is important to have a proper diagnosis due to the following reasons:

  1. A man may pass his yeast infection to his partner in case he does not get it treated. Similarly, she too can pass it back to him. The yeast infection can be eradicated only if both sexual partners get them treated.

  2. The man may be suffering from a medical condition called genital herpes, but he may be under the impression that he is suffering from a yeast infection. Genital herpes is the name of a sexually transmitted disease which has symptoms of little itchy bumps. Yeast infection is cured by certain medicines which do not cure a chronic disease like genital herpes.

It is for these same reasons that a person suffering from these same reasons avoids self diagnosis and gets himself investigated by a health care provider.

The penile yeast infection symptoms in men can be treated. The cream which is prescribed to women affected by vaginal yeast infections can be used for the treatment. The local pharmacy can provide you these creams even without the doctor’s prescription. But it is always better to consult your doctor in case you’ve never had a penile yeast infection before.
