The original BlackBerry Bold made its debut about a year ago. Even though the original model is still a solid device, it's now time for a flashier, faster model that will make you yearn for an upgrade. The latest RIM BlackBerry Bold 9700 is available through T-Mobile and AT and T. We evaluate the T-Mobile version here. The phone itself is the same as with most carriers and mixes HSPA-based 3G, GPS and Wi-Fi with a 480x360 screen and a 3.2-megapixel camera.
The AT and T BlackBerry Bold 9700 mobile has 480 x 360 display on the 9700 is up from the 480 x 320 of the original Bold, but in practical terms, it looks very much the same also terrifically clear, crisp and beautiful. The AT and T BlackBerry Bold 9700 Mobile has colors are bright, but we find ourselves wishing for a bit more screen real estate, (which is par for the course in our experiences with Blackberry), especially in the increasingly sad browsing experience more on that moment.
As AT and T first 3G BlackBerry, the Bold 9700 not only offers T-Mobile customers a sleek new handset in time for the holidays, but it also offers versatility in the form of UMA support for Wi-Fi calling. While AT and T 3G networks may not be as vast as some other carrier's networks, AT and T is continuing to expand its 3G service nationwide and expects to offer 3G services to approximately 200 million people across the US by year end. It's definitely nice to see the carrier add more 3G handsets to its lineup, especially a full-featured phone such as the AT and T BlackBerry Bold 9700 mobile that can really take advantage of the new network. Compared to the previous Bold, the AT and T BlackBerry Bold 9700 mobile features a faster processor, an updated OS, and a sleeker design, AT and T BlackBerry Bold 9700 mobile also has an upgraded camera with a 3.2 megapixel sensor and the ability to record video.
Traditionally, AT and T BlackBerry Bold 9700 mobile handsets have failed to offer an outstanding Web browser. Sadly, the AT and T BlackBerry Bold 9700 mobile is no exception. Simply put, the Web browser doesn't stand up to the competition in terms of ease of use or functionality, especially in a day where so many handsets offer desktop-like browsing experiences on a mobile handset. That said, you can still browse the Web on the AT and T BlackBerry Bold 9700 mobile, just know that the experience won't be as nice as if you were browsing on a device such as the iPhone or DROID. Despite mediocre web browsers, BlackBerry handsets have been wildly popular, especially for users who are primarily concerned with messaging capabilities.
AT and T BlackBerry Bold 9700 mobile Call quality is good, and the volume is nice and loud, though we can't help but feel the speaker phone is a bit weaker than the 9000's, but that could just be our weakening hearing, of course. RIM says it's enhanced the browser on this newest device, and we'll admit it's a bit faster, but as we said earlier, we are left with the feeling that browsing on a BlackBerry will not be satisfactory until there's a serious updating of the software.
