Entire Police Force Quits After Lottery Win Lottery syndicates are a great way for groups of people to pool their money to purchase several lottery tickets and increase their chances of winning a huge payout. One of the biggest wins ever recorded is a 2006 Powerball win of $365 million which was shared by eight persons working at a Nebraska Conagra meat packing plant. They chose to receive a lump sum payout of $177,270,519.67 after taxes. Lottery syndicates are common in the workplace and many syndicates have shared big lottery payouts.

Most of us have speculated at one time or another we would do with the money if we were lucky enough to win a huge Powerball or Mega Millions win. Many of us dream about that big win which would allow us to quit out jobs and live a life of luxury. Lotteries take place around the world and most industrialized countries have national lotteries with considerable jackpots. One of these lotteries, in Hungary has left the town of Budaors without a police force.

The entire fifteen man police force of Budaors quit their jobs after winning a £10 pound ($16,415,014 USD) jackpot in the Hungarian lottery. The entire fifteen man force resigned en masse when the win was announced. The win was the sixth largest in the history of the Hungarian lottery. Police chiefs are scrambling to recruit a new police force but the mass resignation has left the town without any kind of law enforcement and residents are justifiably worried about possible lawlessness.

Last week was certainly a good for odd lottery news. In Columbus Ohio a woman who claimed to have won the Ohio Lottery caused a riot at a Burlington Coat Factory store when she promised to pay for purchases of up to $500 for each customer in the store. Customers called relatives and friends and when it was revealed that the woman not only did not win the lottery but had no money causing a riot and police had to be called. Stay tuned for more odd lottery news from around the world.

Unlike their US counterparts European lottery jackpots are tax free. In the US big lottery winners may pay more than 50% of a jackpot in taxes. Many European lotteries allow players to buy online lottery tickets. The ability of players to buy online lottery tickets has increased sales and revenue. At the present time most US states do not allow the sale of online lottery tickets but several are considering allowing residents to play online. Hopefully the US will catch up with Europe and allow the sale of online lottery tickets.
