A Short Guide To Composite Double Glazed Doors
Ding dong. It's your next-door neighbor. You answer the front door and before you can say hello, he declares, 'Did you know that your wooden door is warping?' He then adds, 'You know, I just installed fiberglass-composite double glazed doors, front and back.' And you think to yourself, 'Composite glazed what? I need to find out about this stuff.'
Well if you are thinking about replacing that front door there are a few considerations to keep in mind. A composite door is one constructed of two or more materials. Examples would include, a wooden door whose exterior is covered in fiberglass, or a PVC door filled with some form of insulating material. Glazing means adding glass to the interior of the door. Adding a decorative sheet of glass and an insulating sheet of glass would be an example of double glazing. So a double glazed composite door is one made up of two different materials whose interior is, at least in part, 'filled' with two sheets of glass.
One of the major problems with a wooden door is its durability. The effects of weather, such as UV rays, rain, and severe temperature swings, can cause warping, swelling, bowing, cracking, and fading of the wood. With these effects come other issues. Insulation suffers, security can be compromised, and maintenance increases.
Many home makeover experts believe fiberglass exterior doors represent the best alternative to traditional all-wood doors. First, fiberglass doors are extremely robust. They are a good choice in areas where the weather is harsh or humid, and are virtually maintenance-free. They do not discolor, are energy efficient, and cannot be kicked in.
Other strong points of high quality fiberglass-composite doors are its aesthetic appeal and its capacity for customization. Their appearance can readily capture the look of real wood. Micro cuts in the fiberglass imitate the look and feel of grained wood. Custom-created stains, clear coat finishing products, and glass can be added to enhance the door's look. They are also available in a variety of architectural styles, from a Southwestern motif to a Victorian look.
The base cost for fiberglass-Upvc Composite Doors is relatively low. However, depending upon the level of customization of the door (i. E. Glazing, staining, locking mechanism), its cost can significantly escalate. The good news though is that most fiberglass doors come with compelling warranties. They can range from twenty year to limited lifetime warranties.
If you choose to double glaze your door, you have several options available. For maximum light think about a door with a large glass area. Glass with UV protection in this case is recommended to prevent interior damage to rugs, furniture, etc. If security is paramount, consider one or two small sections of glass or glass that is highly decorative which obscures the view into your house.
In the past if you wanted to replace your wooden door you replaced it with a wooden door. Thanks to developments in door manufacturing you now have the option to purchase a highly evolved and cost justifiable door which provides all the benefits of wood without all of its pitfalls this option is the Upvc Composite Doors.
