What is Piracy?
Piracy is referred to the unauthorized duplication of any kind of original recording or program for commercial gain without proper the consent of the owner of the rights. If a person using the modern technologies makes copies of a program without taking prior permission to its rightful owner and sells those copies in the market for gain it can be termed as piracy. Here the rightful owner does not get the commercial benefits from these copies. For these reasons such act of unauthorized copying is considered as illegal and is termed as piracy. Piracy of copyrighted content is an illegal as well as criminal activity. Once proved guilty, the concerned person can get severely penalized in piracy case.
Recently the problem of piracy has reached all time high. This rise of the problem has been possible due to the latest technological advancement in this field. How does it affect satellite TV?
Satellite TV is a leading source of TV entertainment and is a paid medium. To watch dish TV you need to pay the TV provider for the installation and packages. It is a kind of paid TV entertainment.
At present there are some vendors that are making some software through which one can watch satellite TV content with a free-to-air receiver. Using this software, a viewer does not have to pay the rightful suppliers of the dish entertainment for watching the content. All they need t o do is to purchase the software from another vendor. Thus the rightful distributor of the dish TV content does not get any revenues from the viewers. Thus this software is also a kind of pirate software.
With such pirate software in the market dish TV providers is losing some of its potential customers who are downloading the illegal software and getting dish entertainment through it.
Anti-piracy measures
Dish TV as well as other entertainment providers are trying their best to fight piracy. They have taken some legal steps to secure their rights as well. This has helped them to have a firm stand against piracy. Recently in a piracy case the court has given a decision in the favor of satellite TV and made it clear that posting pirate software is a violation of Federal Communication Act and that the compensation in pirate software case will be decided keeping the number of individual downloading the software in mind.
