Graduation Etiquette

Anytime you find yourself thinking about the right etiquette for a situation the best policy is to show restraint in what you say/wear and do.

Graduation Ceremony – This is one of the milestones in a person’s life just as important as an engagement or a wedding. The actual ceremony has a touch of solemnity and nostalgia about it. Miss Graduates can be dressed appropriately for the occasion in a simple dress or skirt blouse. Mr. Graduates can be dressed in a light color shirt (preferably white or any other solid color) and tie. For the trousers go with dress trousers, neatly pressed casual khaki or olive drab is fine too.

Graduations typically happen during the summers and graduation gowns usually are quite bulky and warm. So make sure you are wearing something easy and elegant in a light and airy fabric like cotton or linen. If your graduation gown is white or any other light color, keep in mind that bright or dark colors may show through, especially in the photograph’s.

Most important – Remember to wear comfortable shoes and carry some bobby pins to keep your cap on throughout the ceremony.
