GED by Mail

There are many ways to receive your general education diploma, also known as a GED. In this article I will talk about how to receive your GED by mail.

Steps:

Step 1: Call the office that you are receiving your GED from and ask what you need to familiarize yourself with. You will most likely get an answer similar to the one I have provided below. You may also refer to the way I have stated my question. (Keep in mind, different states have different requirements. My answer may not be the correct answer for you.)

Q: Hi my name is_____________, and I am planning on obtaining my GED. Could you please tell me what type of information I should get familiar with before taking the GED test?

A: You should familiarize general level courses. Math, reading and writing, science, and history.

Step 2: Look into finding books on the subjects that your GED test is asking you to know. You may also find some books that contain your states requirements for a general education diploma. I have listed below a few books that may help.

Petersen’s Master The GED

McGraw-Hill’s GED

Kaplan GED by Simon & Schuster

Complete GED Preparation by Steck-Vaughn

Step 3: Find out your states requirements. Most states say you must be the age of 18 to obtain your GED. Still call and make sure.

Step 4: You can now register for your general education diploma if you met your states requirements. You can register almost anywhere in the world. If you are located in a more densely populated place you may have more options.

Step 5: Finally you are now ready to take your exam. Find a testing site located near you. Most testing sites are in a local area and they are very heavily monitored. Most testing places allow you to bring only a few things inside the testing room. Erasers, pens and pencils can be taken in the testing room. If you decide to take all 5 parts of the exam in one day you can also take food or water.

Step 6: Now all you have to do is wait. Even though the anticipation may be hard, you will receive your GED by mail. There really is no way to determine the amount of time it will take to receive your GED by mail. The best you can do is just asking somebody who is in charge at the center you are taking your exam at. They may give you a number you can call.

Make sure to sleep well before your exam. Do not take the exam if you are not 100% confident in the information that was asked of you to know. Eat a good breakfast in the morning and GOOD LUCK!
