Windows is without a doubt the most popular operating system out there today anywhere in the globe. With the release of Windows 7 just around the corner, it would be a good idea to put the latter and long time crowd favorite, Windows XP, into a duel.
In the left corner: Windows XP
If you have older or extremely basic hardware: Windows XP really has the advantage since it has a relatively lightweight core. This means the operating system can theoretically run with only 64MB of RAM, so there'll be a lot of resources left over for your applications.
For most people who got used to how Windows XP moves and performs, it would really feel uncomfortable for them to study the newest OS. Since Windows 7 is definitely an unfamiliar world, more users might settle to the old OS since most people would really say that XP performs pretty well for their computers.
Windows 7 is relatively new and still needs more "tweaking", as computer savvy people would say. Well, let us remember, shall we, that
Windows XP has a lot of years over Windows 7. This means that many IT geniuses have had a lot more time to perfect the extra features and security settings on XP compared to Windows 7, which came out just last year. However, some computer experts do say that XP has become too familiar for spywares, adware, and/or malwares. And that XP is now not as safe from the evils lurking on the World Wide Web as it used to be. In addition to that, experts say that with regards to malware protection, it might actually be safer to lean on Vista or Windows 7 than XP.
IT and Web Development guys have still few feedbacks on which OS is better over the other to use when it comes to their projects. But as Microsoft has positioned Windows 7, it somehow gears to these Creative Professionals.
In the right corner: Windows 7
It is more compatible with the latest hardware than Windows XP. Vista can even beat XP on this one, too. Moreover, a lot of newer laptop models only accept Vista or later operating systems, a fact which guarantees the diabolical Microsoft a clientele, albeit reluctant customers, but still customers.
This newest OS was actually built for speed. Microsoft learns from its mistake from the flopped Vista and has managed to make a new system that has key performance improvements to take up less memory and run background services only when you need them. It is designed to run your programs faster and to sleep, resume, and reconnect to wireless networks faster. And with 64-bit support, you can take full advantage of the latest in powerful 64-bit PCs.
Windows 7 definitely has a better desktop. Bigger buttons in the taskbar and full sized-features. It also provides shortcuts to files, folders, and websites. Connecting to wireless networks isn't a hassle as well for it takes just a couple of clicks.
If you loved to work with your iPod then you would also love working with Windows 7. You can use your fingers to browse the web, flick through photos, and open files and folders on a touch screen PC. Who would not want to use a Windows version that includes true multi touch technology?
Windows 7 comprises of a lot more features such as improved media streaming, Internet TV and a new version of Action Centre where you can put in control of maintenance and security messages.
Buying a Windows OS used to be so simple, though, the birth of newer versions made it more complicated. In such case, it would be better to know your computer's specifications so you would easily know which OS to use. Running a test using Windows XP and Windows 7 to check which one could save your time and energy would also be a good idea.
