I don't think there is a soul on earth who hasn't picked up a guitar and tried to play? The guitar is the #1 instrument of choice for beginning musicians (Piano is a close second). There's nothing quite like the guitar. It just pulls you in and almost everyone would like to know how to play it. There are a few mistakes people make at first though. Let's take a look at them.
Not Committing To Taking Lessons
This is the most common mistake. Most people just end up getting a guitar given to them or a cheap guitar and just fiddle around on a string or two to see if they can make a tune. They end up seeing how difficult it is and the guitar just sits in the corner of their room collecting dust. Sure they might pick up a guide book. But, they never take it much further than a chord or two after realizing how difficult it is to get their fingers to push down on the strings and frets.
Not Researching Their Options
This is the second most common mistake. These people just pick out the closest instructor to their home with the best price and start taking private guitar lessons. Now don't get me wrong. You could get lucky and find a great instructor close to home. In fact, it happened for me. However, I ended up taking two year of lessons and my instructor got a job as a studio musician and quit. I decided to keep taking lessons with his replacement. Ahh! He was horrible. All he wanted to do is show me how good he played and brag about having a classical student. So, do your research on private guitar instructors
Another option people miss are the free resources available online. There are mass amounts of lessons available online. However, you must be careful. Many make claims that just don't stand. So make sure you do your research and take a look at the reviews.
In conclusion. I would recommend taking a look at the free online guitar lessons for beginners available. This will give you an idea if you are up to the task. Plus, many paid online guitar lessons have free lessons available to get you past the first stage before you move on to paid lessons.
