"Cheap Diamond Rings in Sterling Silver!"

"Get Your Diamond Ring Now. Hurrrry!!!!"

Does this sound familiar? Recently there has been a trend to create Diamond jewelry in Silver. Since Silver is actually 50 times cheaper than 18ct Gold, and almost 100 times cheaper than Platinum, jewelers are trying their luck to increase their sales by enticing shoppers to buy cheap quality Diamond jewelry made in Silver.

But....

Is it any good?

Should you buy it?

Is it durable?

Is Silver the better choice?

The answer to all the above questions is, unfortunately, NO.

Let’s get down to the basics, here are simple but solid reasons why I am strictly against the union of Silver with Diamonds:

  • Face it, Diamonds are a mark of luxury. Hence, a cheap beautiful Diamond does not exist. Such poorly advertised Diamonds are cheap only because they are of a 3rd grade, industrial quality level.

  • What are industrial quality Diamonds? They are the most common, low quality Diamonds used for industrial purposes, for e.g. in lasers, for heavy duty cutting jobs, etc.

  • All these Diamonds are heavily included and not at all clear in the inside, primary reason why they are used in factories!

  • Now, some very clever jewelers buy these cheap Diamonds, put them in a cheap metal like Silver, and market them for gullible shoppers like us.

  • But alas, Silver is regrettably, too soft, and soon lets go of the Diamonds. It loses its shapes, oxidizes with daily use to appear blackish, and completely loses its brilliance compared to what it was on day 1.

  • The Diamonds are already dull and yellowish, once the silver starts losing its shape due to daily wear and tear, the Diamonds start to fall off one by one.

  • The final result = A misshaped, blackish ring with missing Diamonds!

On the other hand, here are some of the benefits of creating your Diamond Rings in Gold or Platinum:

BENEFITS OF MAKING YOUR DIAMOND RING IN GOLD:

  • Gold is tough! Though pure gold is soft, 14ct, 18ct Gold is extremely strong and best suited for tough jobs, like holding Diamonds in place!

  • Surprisingly, though Gold is tough, it is also very malleable, hence a variety of designs can be created in Gold.

  • Gold can be mixed with Palladium to achieve a white finish similar to Silver.

  • Gold can also be correctly mixed with other metals to obtain various colors ranging from reddish brown, white as said above, and of course, the traditional yellow gold color.

  • Gold is in itself, an investment! Your entire gold jewelry collection is not only for show, it is one big investment, and can give you a generous return if and when required, something that Silver cannot guarantee.

BENEFITS OF MAKING YOUR DIAMOND RING IN PLATINUM:

  • Platinum is THE HARDEST metal used in jewelry.

  • There is no substitute for Platinum’s strength to hold Diamonds in a ring setting.

  • Platinum is so tough, that special tools are required to create Platinum and Diamond rings!

  • In some shops, you can even create your Diamond rings in gold, but using Platinum Prongs for holding the Diamonds!

As you can see, be wary of sellers selling Diamond rings in Sterling Silver, other than that, you can certainly shop for Silver rings without any stones, for e.g. wedding bands, matching bands, etc.

See you soon.
