The Hamilton brand, one of the oldest watch brands in the world, was founded in America and was formally the watch of choice for many of the American presidents. The Hamilton watches brand is now part of the famous Swiss watch company, Swatch Group.
The Hamilton brand , born in 1892, started in pocket watches and the company was adopted by the US railroad companies due to the accuracy of their time-pieces. The company then went on to supply watches to the US army. Later Hamilton watches were the exclusive providers to a number of US presidents and celebrities including Elvis Presley and Harrison Ford.
Embracing their heritage, Hamilton are releasing a range of watches to commemorate each era of it evolution.
Here is a list of the hot watches from the range:
Hamilton Time Player
The summer kicks off with the launch of designer watches such as the Time Player, a men’s watch which its creators have dubbed "latitude and longitude with attitude". The brilliantly-unique design comes straight from the world painted by Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. Anyone with an insatiable habit of fiddling with gadgetry will certainly be well-suited to the limited edition model. Sliding panels each with their own clock face for different time zones can be endlessly slotted in all directions to your heart’s content.
Hamilton Railroad
To mark that heritage, the company will launch a number of rail-related designer watches for 2010. Among them are the Hamilton RailRoad 9am Train, another men’s watch, which is based on the original design of pocket watches that consisted of a counter disk positioned at 9’o’clock. A more modern member of the Railroad family is the Midnight Train watch which has a face beset with winds of track through the middle of the dial.
Hamilton Pulsomatic
The Pulsomic celebrates the 40th anniversary of the day Hamilton changed the watch industry forever with the launch of the world’s first LED digital watch. Hamilton plays on the themes of science fiction and technological breakthrough by cleverly marrying sleek design with a robust 1950s feel. The watch is powered by kinetic technology and is supported by 120 days of reserve power.
Hamilton Khaki X-Landing
Alongside the well-documented role Hamilton played in the early days of American railways, the firm also has its roots deeply entrenched in aviation and its 1920s infancy. To recognise this strand of its historical DNA, the designer watches maker has launched the limited edition X-Landing, incorporating a ‘top of descent’ function. But although this certainly adds novelty to the watch, the smart-but-simple function also serves a purpose. It marks the position between cruise and descent phases for pilots but also the number of nautical miles before the final destination is reached. It may be of no use to non-fliers but, with 24 different time zones, at least gives the wearer the spirit of exploration.
