The search engine optimization (SEO) can be defined as a process which enhances the traffic to a website through search engines. It will not be wrong to say that SEO is a free method of getting more and more traffic on an Internet site. If the site appears higher in the search result, it gets more traffic compared to the lower ones. It is a well known fact that the visitors most often visit the website which are on the top position of the search result. So, it becomes necessary to do the efforts to get the higher ranking.
A search engine ranks a page according to the votes or backlinks received by a website. It means, the search engine gives the ranking to a website according to people’s visit through the link on another website. Apart, keywords also play an important role in this respect. If the keyword is in the heading of the content of the website, it helps in increasing the position of the website.
Two types of optimizations are popular now-a-days:

Off-page optimization.
The factors like title tags, Meta tags etc., fall under the on-page optimization. The first thing is the title tag that should be descriptive and should be capable to give proper information about your business. Title tag is the first thing that is considered by a search engine. Apart, if it is attractive, it will be able to attract more and more visitors. So, it will not be wrong to say that it is one of the most important things to be thought of. Another important thing in search engine optimization is Meta tag. The Meta description of your website should be concentrated on the area and services, in which your business is specialized. There must be some part of website which you would like visitors to look at. Headers tag, bold, italic, underline, strong etc., are most widely used in this regard.
Your content should be written in such a manner that it should be both readers as well as search engine friendly. Keywords play an important role in ranking your website, but the keywords also should be chosen properly. If you choose ugly keywords, they will not be able to retain visitors on your website for a long time. Apart from all, there are several other aspects like link optimization, image optimization etc., which are the important factors of on-page optimization.
On the other hand, off-page optimization is done off the pages to enhance the performance of website in the search engines for the target keyword which belongs to the content of the page. Linking and placing keyword within link anchor text can be taken as an instance. Several methods of acquiring the links can also be considered as the parts of off-page optimization, which include press release, article distribution, social networking through various websites.
In a nutshell, both on-page as well as off-page optimizations of SEO do a good job in increasing the traffic of a website which results in growing a business.
