How does an auto defrost fridge or freezer work?

Auto defrost fridges and freezers are an asset to any home as they prevent you from ever having to defrost your appliance. Auto defrost is also known as frost free depending upon the brand of appliance you choose.
An auto defrost fridge works by periodically heating the appliance (not enough to damage or defrost your food) and using a blower fan to keep moisture out of the appliance. This combination of heating and air circulation ensures ice doesn't build up on the cooling element.
What happens when ice builds up on the cooling element?
Ice build up prevents your fridge or freezer from working efficiently. It means the appliance has to work harder to keep your food fresh or frozen, and therefore more energy is used. This energy wastage leads to higher electricity bills - which are never appealing with the rising cost of energy - and food spoilage, which can also be expensive.
In addition, the build up of ice leaves you with less room in which to store your food. In non-auto defrost fridges and freezers the ice can often become inches thick, which is very inconvenient.
In auto defrost freezers you will find food won't keep for longer than 12 months because the environment isn't as cold. This is reflected in the four star freezer rating many models possess. However, without the auto defrost function you would have to defrost the freezer annually, which would mean thawing your frozen goods at least once a year anyway.
Which auto defrost fridge?
One of the best selling auto defrost fridges is the Beko TLDA625W larder fridge. It comes in a choice of white or silver to suit your kitchen colour scheme. The Beko TLDA625W has an efficient A energy rating which will save you money on your energy bills and help you live with a clear conscience as you're helping conserve the environment - an investment for years to come.
This fridge, with its capacity of 310 litres, is suitable for a medium sized family. However, if you invest in the Beko TLDA625W make sure you have enough room elsewhere for a freezer, as this is a standalone fridge.
The fridge also benefits from four safety glass shelves, bottle storage, salad crisper, egg tray and reversible door.
An auto defrost fridge or frost free freezer is beneficial for any household because it saves you time and money. Say goodbye to ever defrosting your appliance again and be sure it always performs at its optimum without wasting energy.
