At some point every few years we all have to consider updating our backyard as the elements take their toll. However the big question is; what can we do that is a reasonable price and
yet will look good for years to come?
As manufactures of a range of exotic shade huts and gazebo kits I thought readers would like to get an understanding of the pros and cons of the different options available. I will discuss
the three types of structures we manufacture; these being Bali Huts, African Thatch Gazebos and Timber Gazebos with Colorbond roofs. Let’s look at the Bali Huts / Gazebos and the
African Thatch Gazebos first and the best way to do this is to run through the most frequently asked questions about each type of structure.
How long will the thatched roofing last?
Under normal circumstances and with very little maintenance, a thatch roof owner can have a roof last for 15 years and more from the Bali Thatch or 6-10 years from the African Thatch
Reed roofing.
Are the thatched roofs waterproof?
All Bali Huts installed by Exotic Thatch will be 100% waterproof guaranteed, whereas the African thatching is 95% waterproof. As the Balinese Thatching is 100% waterproof, structures
with this type of thatched roofing are suitable for public areas such as restaurants, coffee shops, hotels and retails shops.
What is the cost of each?
Obviously, this will depend on the dimensions of the structure but as a general rule of thumb the African Hut will be approximately 70% of what a similar size Bali Hut would cost.
How long does it take to install a Thatched Roof Gazebo?
The African Gazebos only take about 3 hours to construct, whereas the Balinese Thatch Gazebo can take 1-2 days in good working conditions.
Are products free from pests?
Yes, both products are treated and thoroughly examined by Australian Quarantine authorities prior to sale and therefore are 100% pest free.
What about ventilation and insulation?
One of the great attractions of thatch is that is extremely thermally efficient â€" warm in winter and cool in summer. Unlike conventional roofing systems that trap heat and moisture vapour
in attics, thatched roofs require no attic ventilation. Both the Balinese Gazebos and the African Gazebos can reduce the inside temperature up to 10 degrees Celsius creating a pleasant
place for your family on a hot summer day.
Will the thatch of the gazebo change colour over time?
The thatch we use is a natural product and will change colour when exposed to the sun and rain.
What timber do you use for the construction of the Gazebos?
We use Australian treated timber to Australian Building regulations and standards. The timber we use is the same timber that is used Australia wide to build pergolas and decks and
comes with a 20-25 year manufactures guarantee when used for the right application as per the manufactures specifications.
