Three Signs Your Kitchen Needs Upgrading

When trying to determine whether your kitchen is a good candidate for a remodel, there many things to consider. Many homeowners don’t update their kitchen until they’re ready to put their house on the market and are looking to compete with newer homes. Others may find that their appliances are aging and need replacing, then opt for a full makeover at the same time. Regardless of the driving reason behind the update, there are three good indicators that your kitchen is due for a change.
First, consider the condition of your kitchen counters. Countertops are heavily used, and can show wear and tear over the course of many years. Because your countertops serve as your food preparation area, it is important that they be in good condition, so as not to harbor bacteria. Chipped tile, worn grout, or other imperfections can make your countertop a prime candidate for replacement. With a large number of countertop surfaces to choose from, you are sure to find one that offers the best in both form and function while staying within your budget.
Next, consider your appliances. There are a number of energy efficient options offered in most appliance models. Depending on the age of your current appliances, you may find the newer models offer not only great energy savings, but also design options that more aptly meet the needs of your household. Perhaps you might consider a freezer on-the-bottom refrigerator, or an oven that includes a convection cooking option. Maybe you’ll consider an induction cook top. There are a wide range of choices available, with many desirable features.
Cabinets are the third indicator that your kitchen is a candidate for a makeover. Aged cabinets can negatively impact the aesthetic appeal of your kitchen. They frequently show signs of kitchen splatters and stains. Though they are quick to show their age, they also offer an opportunity for a simple, often cost effective update. Consider the change new paint or stain can make. Another option might be new hardware to breathe life into your aging cabinets.
For many homes, the kitchen is the center of activity for everything from meals, to homework sessions, to family gatherings. As one of the most used rooms in your homes, don’t wait until it’s time to sell your house before bringing your kitchen up to date. Whether you’re budget allows for small changes or a complete remodel, you’re sure to reap the benefits of your efforts.
