National Zoological Park, Delhi--Explore the rich Flora and Fauna

The National Zoological Park of Delhi established in the year 1959 is reckoned as one of the finest and largest zoos in Asia. It was designed by major Weinman of Sri Lanka and Carl Hagenbeck of West Germany.
Close to Purana Qila or Old Fort and sprawled over a massive area of 214 acres, Delhi Zoo is home of more than 2000 animals and bird species from different parts of the world like Africa, America, Australia and Asia. The Delhi Zoo is an idyllic place for these animals and birds. Apart from these, there are more than 200 tree species.
Along with the wildlife, the zoo also features a library on the right side; it is a store house of information on animals, birds, plants, rare species nesting in this area, etc in India.
It is an ideal picnic spots, especially in winters, the serenity and the greenery offers a delightful respite from the humdrum of the city life. The Zoo also provides with the facility of battery driven carts that can be hired for a complete tour of the National Zoological Garden in Delhi.
Animals in Zoo
The Right way of the zoo brings you cages of the animals such as chimpanzee, Hippopotamus, Spider monkey, African Wild Buffalo, Gir Lion and Zebras and much more. The most sought-after animals at the Zoo are Rhinos, Tigers, Gir lions, and White Tiger.
The left side leads you to water animals and rare and exotic birds such as Macaque, Banteng, Emu, Hyenas, Axis deer, fallow deer, Peafowl, Hog Dear and the Jaguar.
The reptiles like King Cobras and Pythons have special underground caves.
The Flora
The flora populace consists of there are as many as 5,591 trees including the hanging deep yellow Alamtas Hedges, the drought resistant Lahura trees and the native Delhi Bistendu. There are some rare ones like Baobab trees also called Kalpavriksha, which are only four in number in entire Delhi, three of them being in the zoo.
