Just like any other websites, directory websites are with the same logic as the ordinary websites. The first thing to consider in creating a website is what will be the content. The content as webmasters define it is the data to be placed inside the website ready to be read, copy, download or an information campaign. Web directories, on the other, the contents are the different websites being submitted.
It is overwhelming to discover a directory site with a high page rank on google. Though there are different search engines competing with each other, (I happen to be much more inclined with google) directories with high page rank have found a business in it. If fact, these web directory sites are getting a lot of money from the owners of other websites by availing a featured listing. Though the prices vary from its of the directory sites, the higher the page rank, the better the directory website.
Getting a high page rank in google is not an easy task. As mentioned above, all of the owners of any websites have to work for it to achieve the desired PR, the same with the other websites. That’s why some of the webmasters are paying just to get a high PR and as a return on investment (ROI), they get the desired traffic.
These directory websites have the same strategies, you need to work for it also to get a high page rank. The same with the other websites, these directory sites started from the beginning. By constant promotion, link building and the accumulation of content, they reach a high page rank.
On the first time a web directory site is launched, it offers a free and maybe a reciprocal submission. Though the featured link option is already there, most of the submitted entries availed the free and regular submission. (I noticed this situation on my directory sites when I started to approve them.)
At the beginning, directory sites are hard to monetize because a person maintaining a website concerns only on the submission. Any ads or sponsored links will not be noticed unless it is again another directory sites and it is a free one or with a high PR.
Though there are lots of ways to develop a high page rank, submitting to directory sites still is the number one strategy being followed by most of the webmasters. As an internet savvy and maintainer of a directory sites, you have to look for the best category for your website. This is not only to make sure your site will be approved, but also it will be easier for the searcher to locate your website.
