About The Louvre Palace:
This place has one of the world's largest collections of 20th century paintings, sculptures and other decorative objects and hence is one of the best places of attraction in Pairs. The palace present there itself is an example of rich history of the medieval period.
Around 35,000 objects from the medieval period have been exhibited over a large area of 60,600 square meters. This is one of the largest museums in the world at the present time. It is located on the right bank of Seine River.
At the time of French Revolution, the National Assembly decided that the Louvre would be used as a museum, to display nation's great masterpiece. The museum was opened to public on 10th August 1793 with an exhibition of 537 amazing paintings, with the majority of works by church and royal society. The museum was closed in 1796 due to structural problems with the building until 1801.
The numbers of collections were increased during the time of Napoleon. In tribute, the museum was renamed the"Musee Napoleon" in 1803 and Spanish, Austrian, Dutch and Italian works were added during this period. It is one of the world's most visited museums, averaging 15,000 visitors per day, out of which 65 percent are tourists.
It was also showcased in the movie based on the book The Da Vinci Code which earned the museum $2.5 million by allowing filming in its galleries.
